On Monday, June 18, 2007, Mickey Penrod's summer school class at McCutcheon High School visited Winterhaven Farm and viewed the wildflowers growing in their restored environment.
Hundreds of varieties Indiana native wildflowers and grasses are growing in a tall grass prairie setting in the fourth year of a prairie restoration project underway at Winterhaven Wildflowers.
Experience the plants as you walk through the restored acres and natural wetland areas. Participate in the restoration yourself by helping in various work projects throughout the growing season and at seed harvest time as the season winds down.
Visit throughout the year to see the changes that take place as the seasons progress. Discover the insects that only eat certain plants or only lay their eggs on others.
Starting in 2008, Winterhaven Wildflowers will donate native forbs and grasses and native plant landscaping consultation to each new Habitat for Humanity home built in Tippecanoe County. This is an experimental program that may expand to other counties if successful here.

Thirteen hardworking students learned math and English skills while helping Mickey build a wildlife habitat at McCutcheon. At Winterhaven, they used their digging skills to help transplant some mislocated wildlflowers to more suitable locations.
